It’s official: Three Nine Financial is a Registered Investment Adviser in the State of Missouri! It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so excited to share the news.
For those of you that don’t know, here’s a little background on me and why I started Three Nine Financial.
As I was struggling to pick a course of study in college, someone mentioned that I should read The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. I read that book and instantly became a budget nerd. All of a sudden, finance became interesting to me. But it didn’t stop there. I continued to read financial books and made Financial Management my course of study. I even went on to get an MBA in Finance from KU and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
And with a lot of the focus on money, I think I got a little too into it. For me, money became an object of worship. I wasn’t singing praise & worship songs to money, but I worshipped it in the sense that I thought if I could just get enough of it, I would be happier. I realize now that I was idolizing money because of what I thought it could do for me. But I was about to learn that money can never do for me what only God can do.
A Change of Perspective
My perspective about money changed when I was introduced to Kingdom Advisors, an organization for Christian financial professionals. As part of the membership process, I was required to complete a thorough study on what the Bible has to say about money and possessions. I had already read all the Dave Ramsey books and been through Financial Peace University, so I thought it would be a breeze. But this study was different. God opened my eyes to a stewardship perspective and introduced the concept of Biblically Responsible Investing, planting the seed for Three Nine Financial.
Why I Started Three Nine Financial
Up to that point in my career, I enjoyed managing portfolios simply to help investors grow their net worth. But that was a pretty narrow purpose, and I always felt like I wanted to somehow integrate my faith and my work. With my new-found perspective from the Kingdom Advisors study, I began to see how I can help others manage their resources through biblical stewardship to maximize Kingdom impact. That’s why I felt led to start Three Nine Financial, and I can’t think of a better calling!
Starting a business brings a lot of uncertainty and requires a lot of faith. But this is not just a job for me; it’s my ministry and my calling. This is just the beginning of an amazing journey, and I can’t wait to see where God takes us!
